Scholar of the Painted Skies

My upcoming YA fantasy novel is currently querying with literary agents.

When Myrtle Blackwell finds her mentor poisoned in her study at the Royal College of Astrology, she knows she should stay well away from the investigation lest anyone look too closely at her own history, but she can’t just stand by as the police claim that Professor Nova killed herself due to mental instability. Haunted by aspersions cast on her own state of mind, Myrtle is determined to vindicate her mentor’s sanity, even as all the clues she unearths — including some illegal spellcraft — seem to point to madness after all.

While dodging the inconvenient overtures of fellow underscholar, Rupert Wyles, Myrtle joins forces with Ada Castlebourne: daughter of the dean, budding socialite and would-be detective. But in their attempts to investigate, they get an innocent boy arrested. Only the truth can save him, but how far will Myrtle keep pursuing it if it leads her back to the asylum she’s been running from all along?
